It’s All About “Families & Friends”
Branson, MO…Relatively new Branson resident Jack Burke, along with his wife Jo Ann, had hoped to keep a low profile in Branson – until some Branson families and personal friends had some different ideas.
The move from southern California included the Burke’s company, Sound Marketing, Inc, which specializes in business-to-business marketing and communications. Additionally Jack is the author of several books, including “Creating Customer Connections” and “Relationship Aspect Marketing”. He is also a contributing author to Executive Excellence’s “Best of Class”, along with such other noted authors as Stephen Covey, Tom Peters and Ken Blanchard.
As Jack said, “We planned to stay under the radar. We would continue to serve our clients around the world, but Branson would be where we lived and played. We didn’t anticipate any business from the Branson area. God is probably having a good laugh at our plans.”
Due to Jack’s marketing reputation in the insurance industry, the Connell family was the first to change those plans. “Pat Connell, along with Tim and Chad, asked me to coordinate their annual business retreat,” Burke explained. “That, in turn, has become a very enjoyable ongoing relationship.”
Through the Connells, Jack was introduced to the Dutton Family and has been serving as a management and marketing consultant to them since last Fall. As Jack said, “I agreed to meet with Sheila, but I had no intention of taking on any additional consulting work. After nearly 25 years living around the entertainers in southern California, I didn’t want to have to deal with the ego factor. All that changed when Sheila arrived in a ten-year-old Ford Taurus and greeted me like a long lost friend. I love every minute that I get to work with them.”
According to Sheila Dutton, “Jack and Jo Ann have become very dear friends very quickly. We rely on his advice when it comes to management, customer service and marketing issues within our theater, hotel and restaurant complex. As a result we are becoming much better employers and managers. Entertainment is in our blood, but managing the businesses has been a learning experience.”
Sound Marketing has also done some marketing work for Branson Creek, as Jack explained, “We were surprised when some of our friends from California also moved into the Branson area, but the biggest surprise came when an old friend, Tim Mahoney, turned up here as the President & CEO of Glenn Patch’s organization. It was only natural to help him with one of his projects.”
Aside from managing the daily operations of Sound Marketing, writing books and articles for business, and speaking engagements, Jack is also a member of the Sigma Foundation’s Board of Directors, which operates Springfield’s Sigma House and Branson’s Larry Simmering Recovery Center. Prior to founding Sound Marketing with his wife, he was the North American Director of Car Sales for Hertz Corporation, National Sales Manager for National Coach Corporation and a radio/television news broadcaster.
